Racing at Altitude — The Mile High Classic
Adalberto Valenzuela, "El Mago," invites all pigeon fanciers to the inaugural year of racing at the altitudes of Denver, Colorado. East to West along I-70 and Highway 24.

Four races plus a 120-mile activation, with a possible fifth at 390 miles. Race dates to be determined.

Everything you need to know about entering the 2026 Mile High Classic.
Perch Fee
$150/bird or 6 birds per team for $750. Non-refundable. Due before or with shipping. Once birds arrive they cannot be removed.
Activation Fee
$250/bird. 10% goes to Mile High Classic. Must activate by deadline or birds become derby property and will be sold.
Acceptance
Feb 18 – Apr 30, 2026. Replacements May 1–31. Capacity: 450 pigeons only.
Bands & PMV
2026 seamless band required (AU, IF, CU). Must arrive with covered perch and PMV vaccination. Also vaccinated at arrival.
Flight Feathers
9th and 10th flights cut and pulled on all birds regardless of arrival date. No exceptions.
Training
All flights via Facebook Live. No release if winds exceed 15 mph, N-S or crosswinds.

Member of local clubs for over 15 years at Foothills Club and Denver International. Launching the inaugural Mile High Classic — the first one-loft race at altitude in Denver.
2026 Rules
- 4 races: 170, 220, 265, and 345 miles (final). Possibly a 5th at 390. Dates TBD.
- 120-mile activation race prior to main series.
- Loft east of Denver. Birds fly East to West along I-70 & Hwy 24 at 1,280–1,450 ypm.
- Birds accepted Feb 18–Apr 30. Replacements May 1–31.
- Capacity: 450 pigeons.
- Perch: $150/bird or 6 for $750 (team).
- Activation: $250/bird. 10% to Mile High Classic.
- Must arrive with covered perch and PMV vaccine. Vaccinated again at arrival.
- 2026 seamless band required (AU, IF, CU, etc.).
- Once at loft, birds cannot be removed — become loft property.
- Must activate by deadline or birds become derby property and sold.
- 9th & 10th flight feathers cut and pulled on all birds.
- Training flights on Facebook Live.
- No release if winds >15 mph, N-S, or crosswinds.
- Final race: first drop (tie, paid equally), then clocking order.
- All races open 48 hours.
- No returns in 48 hrs = money split equally among basketed birds.
- 10% deducted if chip undetected but bird arrived (logged last).
- Ties share prize equally.
- Unclaimed prizes in 48 hrs redistributed, minus 10%.
- After final race, birds returned. Shipping paid by owner.
- After 7 days unclaimed birds become derby property.
- 170 Mile Race: first 5 birds get a free perch.
- Mile High Classic reserves the right to make all decisions.
